When it comes to talking about the best gaming routers then let’s clear one thing up before we begin. Gaming routers cannot increase your internet speed from a provider, because it is a fixed speed depending on the kind of plan you have. However, gaming routers can give maximum efficiency of your connection by providing a more reliable connection to all devices available. Gaming routers need to be customizable and adaptable to different network setups.
The best gaming routers also have some kind of traffic shaping, or also known as Quality-of-Service (QoS). This can prioritize the type of network traffic by specifying it as gaming traffic. By doing this, gaming traffic is given utmost priority and bandwidth among other types of traffic on the network, therefore giving online gaming the most space in the connection.
There are also things called as dual-band routers, which are also good for online gamers. Utilising different bands allows you to prioritise one band for gaming and the other for more mundane network uses.
Currently, the best gaming routers available are debatable. But based on most reviews available, here are the current top gaming routers in the world:
NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900
To date, this is the best gaming router available according to most technology reviewers online. It is built mainly for the purpose of gaming, but also for streaming and connecting mobile devices. It has a 1GHz dual core processor, built-in high-powered amplifiers, and external antennas. These features help its users have a lag-free gaming experience every time, and also because it is the first router in the world to use gigabit WiFi. This WiFi is actually the world’s fastest, with a connection reaching up to 600 + 1300 Mbps. Moreover, it also has an advanced QoS, Beamforming (a kind of spatial filtering technique done through sensor signal processing), and simultaneous dual band. This router definitely deserves to be on top of the best gaming routers list.
ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Router
Beautiful inside and out — this is how this router should be always described. Not only is it physically attractive, but the system inside this router also lives up to its appearance. This is my personal favourite amongst the top routers as I enjoy the simple yet powerful features it has.
This ASUS router is currently the 5th generation of the 802.11ac chipset which has a concurrent dual-band 2.4GHz/5Ghz, giving its users a fast connection reaching up to 1.75 Gbps. Much like the NETGEAR Nighthawk, it also uses gigabit WiFi. Other features of this router include AiRadar (detachable antennas), ASUS AiCloud (unlimited storage expansion), Download Master, and built-in USB ports. Compared to the former routers of the same company such as RT-N56U and RT-N66U, this router has improved speed for better streaming and gaming purposes.
D-Link DGL-5500 Wireless AC Gaming Router
Probably the most noticeable feature about this router that made it into the list of the best gaming routers is its stream boost feature. Stream boost is the management of network traffic that makes sure all devices are connected properly to the router and that the connection is stable. What makes it different from the other listed best gaming routers is that because of this stream boost feature, network traffic shaping is improved and helpful applications are being tracked so that it can optimize the overall performance of the router. Moreover, this router’s setup wizard is efficient compared to the others, which takes quite some time to install. It also has a dual-band speed than can reach up to 867 Mbps. However, it does not have built-in USB ports which is annoying if you often transfer files across your network. If you will not utilise the USB ports then this is definitely a contender for best gaming router.
Thanks for reading, the subject of best gaming router is a complex one but I hope my suggestions have helped you decide a little bit.
